How soccer works
The short version of everything. Ask for anything missing here.
What is this app?
A practice planner for youth soccer coaches. You pick a team, it builds a full session around one age-appropriate objective, with activities, timings and coaching points. You can run it from your phone at the field and send parents an update afterwards.
How does it choose the activities?
Every practice is built around one objective from the curriculum, chosen for your team's age. The engine then picks activities that train that objective and fit your session length, your squad size and whether you have opposition. Swap any activity you do not like for another from the library.
Where does the curriculum come from?
Fifty objectives across five age bands, U7-8 up to U15-16, each written as a game problem rather than a drill: "create width and depth in possession", "cover behind the pressure". The structure follows US Soccer's Grassroots guidance, adapted for rec and travel practices. This is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by US Soccer.
Why do the same ideas come back at older ages?
On purpose. A U9 team learns to give a passing option; a U14 team learns to do it under real pressure against a defender who reads it. Objectives belong to families that recur band after band, so a player moving up meets the same idea one step harder rather than starting again.
What are the animations on the activities?
Most activities play as a step-by-step animation: the setup, then each move with a caption. Passes are drawn in white, runs in gold. It is there so a parent helper who never played can run the activity without watching a video first. Press pause and step through it with the arrows.
What is Play-Practice-Play?
The session shape every soccer practice here follows: kids play a game as soon as they arrive, then work on the idea of the day, then play again. It exists because standing in lines teaches nothing and the last game is where you find out whether the middle bit stuck.
Can I change a practice after it is built?
Yes. Edit any practice to change the date, the focus, the coach talk, the minutes on each block, or the activities themselves. Nothing is locked, and the plan is a starting point rather than a script.
What is Run it?
The at-the-field screen. One block at a time, big type, a timer you tap to start, the coaching points for that block, and Next. Made for a phone in one hand with a ball in the other.
What is the parent update?
A short message you can send after practices, built from what the team actually did: what you worked on, why it matters at this age, and what is coming next. Copy it into your team chat or email. Parents mostly want to know somebody had a plan.
How do I share a practice with my assistant coaches?
Add them to the team as coaches and they see everything. For a helper without an account, share the practice itself: they get a read-only page they can open at the field, no sign-in.
What is the season builder?
It plans a run of practices at once, spreading the objectives across your season instead of picking one week at a time. You can still edit any individual session afterwards.
What is practice structure?
Your own slot layout: how long your warm-up is, whether you finish with a scrimmage, and so on. Set it once for a team and every new practice starts from that shape instead of the default.
