U9 and up . Beat a defender 1v1 . Shoot when the goal is there
Diamond Shooting
Set up
- Field
- Use one full-size goal with four cones arranged in a diamond in front, numbered 1 through 4.
- Players
- 6 or more players. Start one player at cones 2, 3, and 4, with everyone else queued at cone 1. The finish is a live 1v1 against the player from cone 2, with a goalkeeper behind that defender.
- Keeper
- Yes, one in goal. An outfield player taking a turn rather than the team's keeper, because the role changes during the drill.
- Balls
- Keep a supply of balls beside cone 1; the first player in that line starts every repetition.
How it runs
- 1.Player 1 passes to Player 2 and follows the ball into Player 2's position.
- 2.Player 2 plays to Player 3 and then becomes the live defender.
- 3.Player 3 finds Player 4 and moves into Player 4's spot.
- 4.Player 4 receives and attacks Player 2 in a 1v1 toward goal.
- 5.The repetition ends with a shot, a defensive block, or the goalkeeper collecting the ball.
After each rep
If Player 4 fails to score, that player becomes the goalkeeper and the current goalkeeper joins the outfield line. If Player 4 scores, the goalkeeper remains in goal and Player 4 joins the back of the line. Either way, Player 2, the defender, moves to cone 3.
How to win
A goal keeps the current goalkeeper in place; a miss sends the shooter into goal.
