U12 and up . Defend immediately after losing the ball . Attack quickly after winning it
Three Seconds
Set up
- Field
- Mark a rectangular grid and place one two-yard target gate at each end.
- Players
- 8 or more players. Use two teams of four in different colors, with all eight players active inside the grid.
- Balls
- Keep one ball live and 6 to 8 spares around the outside; when a reset is needed, roll in a fresh ball immediately so the game does not pause.
How it runs
- 1.Begin with one team in possession in a 4v4.
- 2.When the other team wins the ball, call 'Go!' and start the three-second count.
- 3.Before the count expires, the new possession team must either complete three consecutive passes or dribble through a target gate.
- 4.Completing either action earns 1 point and play continues.
- 5.If the team fails, give possession back to the opponent and restart immediately with a new ball.
- 6.The team that has just lost possession presses the ball and recovers into a compact shape right away.
After each rep
Every turnover starts a new three-second window. Use four- or five-minute rounds with rest between, and end a round when one team reaches ten points.
How to win
Earn 1 point by completing three passes or dribbling through a gate within three seconds of winning possession.
