U9 and up . Beat a defender 1v1 . Be the first defender. Close them down
Breakaway: Closing Defender
Set up
- Field
- Place a cone about 25 yards from goal.
- Players
- 5 or more players. Divide the group into 2 teams wearing different-colored jerseys. The defending team lines up beside the goal with a large supply of balls. The attacking team begins from the cone 25 yards out.
- Keeper
- Yes. Put a goalkeeper in the goal.
How it runs
- 1.Each team works in that role for 5 minutes.
- 2.The first defender starts the repetition by passing to the first attacker, then immediately steps out to defend.
- 3.The attacker tries to beat the defender and create a scoring chance.
After each rep
The repetition ends when the attacker scores or the defender wins the ball; the next defender then serves the next attacker and play continues. After 5 minutes, the teams switch so each side spends 5 minutes attacking and 5 minutes defending.
How to win
Each goal is worth 1 point for the attacking team. The team with the most goals wins the game. Play 2 games and name a winner after each one. If the teams split the two games, play an additional round to decide the overall winner.
