Defensive Pair: Pressure and Cover

Set up

Field

A 20 by 25 yard channel with a small goal at one end.

Players

4 to 12 players. Two defenders start in front of the goal, two attackers start at the far end with a ball.

How it runs

1. 1.The attackers try to score.
2. 2.The first defender goes to pressure the ball.
3. 3.The second defender drops behind and inside at an angle, close enough to help, never level with the first.

After each rep

After each turn the pairs swap roles. Four turns, then new pairs.

How to win

Attackers score in the goal. Defenders score 2 for an interception by the covering defender, 1 for winning it any other way or forcing the ball out.
