Squeeze Box: Team
Set up
- Field
- Use a full field or an adapted 70x50 yard field for 8vs8. Divide the field into 9 zones, three horizontally and three vertically.
- Players
- 22 or more players. Use the team's preferred formation, with 4-4-2 shown as the example. The coach observes from the sideline or from inside the field. Teams may use different formations to prepare for a specific opponent.
How it runs
- 1.Use offside.
- 2.An assistant coach may help with offside decisions.
- 3.The back 4 defends zonally and slides together, with a center back or goalkeeper directing the movement.
- 4.On the weak side, the defender and midfielder pinch inward so the team remains compact around the ball, intentionally leaving more space on the far side.
- 5.The front 2 stay connected and avoid becoming isolated from one another.
- 6.A natural leader communicates so the entire block moves together.
- 7.Keep the whole team within roughly 2/3 of the field length and 2/3 of the field width.
- 8.If the defending team fails to compress quickly enough, award the opposition a free kick.
How to win
Score normally in the full-size goals.
